NFL vs rugby

Which is better, American football or rugby? American football is a copy of the original sport, which is the rugby. Rugby has been played for ages originally in Europe. It is thought that rugby is a sport played by animals, I mean, people who are clumsy and that sort of thing but, actually, it is said that people who play rugby are really polite and well-mannered. People might think that rugby is better than American football but in my opinion, if I had to choose I would definitely decide American football. American football is much more interesting than rugby because there are better tackles and there are more injuries because of the bravery of the game.

What do you think about rugby or American football? Which of these would you choose if you had to?

  1. I don't know much about rugby or american football, the only thing that I know is that they are very aggressive and that to do that you have to be very strong or you could be injured easily.

  2. I don't like them because they are very violent and you can get hurt. Also I think that watching it is boring because it's always the same.

  6. I think I would prefer to play rugby, because in american football you need to wear protections to play and that means that yòu can injure yourself easily.

  7. Ion, I think you are a bit confused! American football players wear so much padding because they are scaredy-cats. Rugby players are simply much tougher. There is a saying, "Football players spend ninety minutes pretending that they're injured; rugby players spend eighty pretending that they're not."

Nowadays, pupils in most British schools play football, but I went to a very old school in the countryside (though still a state school: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adams'_Grammar_School), which was therefore pretty traditional, and thus played rugby (along with cricket and hockey). It's a much more varied and therefore interesting sport.

Given Spain's 'performance' on Friday, it might be a good idea for people here to give up playing football and take up rugby! I think it would really fit in with the culture and climate of the Basque Country and in all seriousness is a natural choice.

And Ander, I think your personality would fit in on any college rugby team!
